WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Allegations that corrections on Wikipedia were made from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Headquarters servers are not true, and the Department is conducting an internal investigation into the matter, NYPD Deputy Commissioner Stephen Davis told Sputnik.
“These incidents did not originate from computers located at [NYPD] Police Headquarters,” Davis said on Friday.
Capital New York identified 85 IP addresses at NYPD that were involved in making changes in the Wikipedia articles. The alterations concerned stories on New York City police brutality victims Eric Garner, Sean Bell and Amadou Diallo.
“We are conducting an internal investigation to identify what member of the service may have accessed the [New York] Department’s server,” Davis added.
African American Eric Garner died in a chokehold administered by a white police officer in July 2014. Amadou Diallo, a 22-year-old immigrant from Guinea, was fatally shot by NYPD officer in 1999, while Sean Bell, 23-year-old New Yorker, was killed in a mass shooting by NYPD policeman in 2006.
