MURMANSK (Sputnik) – The participants of the "Friendship Ski Track" race, kicking off on Saturday, will have an opportunity to ski through the territories of Russia, Norway and Finland without a visa or passport, the sports and physical culture committee of the Russian Murmansk Region has told RIA Novosti.
"The opening of the 'Friendship Ski Track' is a spectacular traditional event. The border guards of Russia, Finland and Norway are the first to start and then a mass start is given," a representative of the sports committee said.
The 12.5-kilometer (7.6-mile) race starts in the Rayakoski village in the Russian Murmansk Region, which is a settlement located most closely to the trijunction between Finland, Norway and Russia.
The "Friendship Ski Track" race had to be cancelled last year because there was not enough snow in the area.
