MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Egyptian disciplinary committee dismissed 41 judges on Saturday on charges of involvement in political activities and connections with the Muslim Brotherhood organization, Egyptian media reported.
Thirty-one out of 41 judges were convicted of supporting ex-president Mohammed Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood’s leading member, following his removal from power in 2013, according to reports.
Another 10 of the accused judges belong to the “Judges of Egypt” movement, said to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Following a string of mass protests in July 2013, the Egyptian military ousted President Mohammed Morsi and declared the Muslim Brotherhood movement illegal.
In December 2013, Egypt declared Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization. A number of its members were convicted of inciting murders and violence. The group dismissed the charges as politically motivated.
