ISIL insurgents performed a car bombing attempt using chlorine gas as a weapon, the Security Council of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region stated, Reuters reports.
The Security Council claimed that soil and clothing samples had been taken after the Jan. 23 attack, saying that laboratory analysis showed that "the samples contained levels of chlorine". The allegations of chemical action could not be independently confirmed though.
The Islamic State militant group controls large areas of Syria and Iraq and declared an Islamic caliphate on the territories that had fallen under its control. It is infamous for numerous abductions, killings and anti-Western propaganda.
