Man Hospitalized in Southern Kazakhstan on Suspicion of Ebola
The man – whom local media identify as 37-year-old Sergei Baryshnikov – arrived in the Kazakh city of Almaty from West Africa's Guinea, where the Ebola outbreak originated in December 2013. Baryshnikov, a resident of northern Kazakhstan's Kostanay Province, was hospitalized immediately after landing.

"According to the doctors, any specific symptoms characteristic of the disease have not been identified in this person. The likelihood that the patient's illness is caused by the Ebola virus is low," the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Kazakh officials said test results would only be available within 18-20 hours of the patient's hospitalization.

Media reports suggested Baryshnikov's travelling companion, Russian citizen Vladimir Rudenko, had been placed under medical supervision as well.

Ebola is a deadly disease that spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons, or upon contact with contaminated items. Symptoms include weakness, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and the sudden onset of fever followed by vomiting, diarrhea and in some cases, internal and external bleeding.
