Ferguson police arrested two people at an evening rally in the troubled St. Louis suburb, as local residents called on mayor James Knowles to resign. The two were detained when at least 50 protesters blocked traffic. Those arrested, including a freelance photojournalist, were later released.

Ferguson has become a symbol of nationwide protests against police brutality and unfair sentencing after a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed African-American teenager last August.
Protesters urged the mayor to resign following a US Department of Justice report on the Ferguson police force. The DoJ investigation revealed that the Ferguson police department and the city's municipal court were plagued with systemic bias and racial profiling.
