"Whatever Poroshenko says, the Minsk Agreements do work: for many days Ukrainian soldiers do not shell the cities, many people have survived," Pushkov wrote on his Twitter page.
According to the Russian lawmaker, Poroshenko's statements have the sole objective of convincing the West to authorize lethal arms deliveries to Kiev.
"All of Poroshenko's claims have one purpose – to gain points in the West, receive money and weaponry from there. Because without the West Kiev authorities are nothing," Pushkov said in another post in his Twitter blog.
On February 12, the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France agreed on a set of measures aimed at stopping the military confrontation between Kiev forces and independence supporters in eastern Ukraine.
The measures include a ceasefire, which came into force on February 15, the creation of a buffer zone in Ukraine's southeast through the withdrawal of heavy arms and an "all-for-all" prisoner exchange.
The self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DPR and LPR) have been implementing the Minsk accords, reporting the completion of heavy weaponry withdrawal on March 1.
Meanwhile Poroshenko has announced that Kiev plans to build up Ukraine's military potential and Ukrainian officials have suggested that the country could benefit from lethal weaponry supplies from the West.
