"A considerably large group of EU countries are turning the attention of their zealous partners to the fact that the process of fulfilling the Minsk agreements is continuing and that if anyone is breaching it, then it's Kiev and not the [self-proclaimed] Luhansk and Donetsk People's republics, let alone Russia," Meshkov said in regard to possible new sanctions against Russia.
The European Union and the United States started to impose sanctions against Moscow last March, after Crimea voted to rejoin Russia. The restrictions have targeted many Russian individuals and several key sectors of the economy. The Kremlin responded with a ban on the importation of certain food products from the sanctions-imposing nations.
Moscow has warned the European Union that delivering lethal weapons to Ukriane would be an illegitimate step and would bring serious consequences to European security, Alexei Meshkov said.
“We warn our partners in the European Union that the delivery of lethal weapons to Ukraine would be an irresponsible and illegitimate step bringing with it the most serious consequences for the security for the entire European continent,” Meskhov said during a parliamentary hearing in Moscow.
Last week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in a televised interview that Kiev had agreed delivery of weaponry, including lethal, from 11 EU countries.
