Vladimir Chizhov said during a parliament hearing in Moscow that the West believes Russia “has fooled the West’s hope and rejected the main path of humankind using old habits of revenge and imperialism.”
“This type of relations with us won’t work today, tomorrow, or in 50 years. We don’t need this type of ‘business as usual,’” Chizhov said.
Relations between the Western countries and Russia have suffered considerably over the past year.
On Wednesday, the US Treasury Department added 14 Ukrainian and Russian individuals and two entities to its list of sanctions.
EU leaders are expected to discuss policy toward Russia and possible anti-Russia sanction extension at a summit March 19-20.
Russia has repeatedly and unequivocally denied its involvement in the Ukrainian internal crisis and called the sanctions counterproductive.
