Slovakia opposes an immediate extension of economic sanctions against Russia, Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajcak told reporters after the meeting of EU foreign ministers, replying to the question of when economic sanctions against Russia should be extended.
"We should give Minsk a chance; we are not in hurry, we do not share the view that sanctions should be extended now, in March," Lajcak said.
Western countries have repeatedly imposed sanctions against Russia since March 2014 because of Russia’s position in the Ukrainian crisis. The last round of sanctions occurred in March 2015, when the US expanded its sanctions’ list.
The restrictions primarily target Russian companies, politicians and businessmen.
