“RBC has never provided client information to the National Security Agency (NSA) for surveillance and we have not provided the NSA access to our network,” Blair said on Tuesday amid media reports that the NSA is mapping US and foreign companies' corporate communications.
Blair explained that RBC focuses on best practices for network security, and will always safeguard RBC clients’ personal, financial and business information in addition to providing RBC clients confidentiality.
Blair also said RBC mandates the same commitment to protection of information and confidentiality from other third party companies it works with.
Other companies, like Rogers Communications, told Sputnik on Tuesday that they would never give information to the NSA without a warrant, and would work to protect customers’ data.
On Tuesday, the NSA said in a statement they could not comment on specific foreign intelligence activities, but said that US President Barack Obama has worked hard to identify correct conduct for collecting signals intelligence.
The Canada daily Globe and Mail newspaper obtained an NSA document on Tuesday that alleged the NSA was researching corporate communications data within leading companies.
