The movie also shows many interviews with Crimean residents who personally took part in the so-called "Russian spring" protests as well as Russian military, including Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The most spectacular moments of the stories people shared about these tough times were reconstructed, making the viewer feel as if he was there himself.
Even before its release, the documentary sparked debates all over the world as the US and the EU have condemned Putin's insight, while the Ukrainian prime minister even called on the International Court of Justice to consider the footage as evidence of Russia's "premeditated invasion".
"Crimea — Way Back Home" will be presented in English Wednesday at 17:00 Moscow Time (14:00 GMT) at the Rossiya Segodnya International press center.
