Blockupy does not control part of the anti-austerity protesters clashing with police in Frankfurt over the opening of a new European Central Bank (ECB) building in the city, the organization's spokesperson Slauke Loewe told Sputnik Wednesday, commenting on the violence that had erupted earlier in the day.

Majority of Detained Activists in Frankfurt Came From Italy - Police
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 10,000 people from all over Germany and abroad came to Frankfurt for the demonstration in order to disrupt the opening of the new ECB headquarters that reportedly cost over $1 billion to build.

“We have two types of actions in today’s protests, two sides. On the one hand in today’s protest there are Blockupy actions that are within our plan, thousands of people blocking the European Central Bank because of the austerity policy, on the other hand we have the actions that are not within our action plan. That is not what we were preparing for this day. It has to be clearly said!” Slauke Loewe, member of Blockupy team told Sputnik.

The ongoing violent anti-austerity protests organized by the Blockupy left-wing movement in Frankfurt are coming to an end, a member of the activist group told Sputnik on Wednesday.

“The blockade [of the new ECB headquarters] is not finished, but it’s ending at the moment, people are leaving,” Slauke Loewe, a member of the Blockupy team, told Sputnik.

Earlier in the day the protesters burned police cars and trash bins. They also blocked the bridge over the river Main and a number of streets, causing traffic jams.

According to the Blockupy's Twitter, activists hung a banner reading "Capitalism Kills" in front of the new ECB headquarters, as a reported 1,500 people attended the unauthorized march.

Blockupy is a left-wing political group protesting EU austerity policies, particularly those imposed recently on Greece.
