Most Germans still consider Russia a powerful country that has a major impact on international processes, according to a survey carried out by the Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion Research as reported by the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.
Replying to the question of "Whether Russia is still a world power," 67% of respondents answered “Yes”. According to sociologists, the survey showed the same result in 2008. However, in 2011 only 38% of respondents considered Russia a major player in the global context.
According to the publication, the number of people in Germany who agree with the statement that "Russia plays an important role in world politics" increased from 72% to 82% over the past few years.
At the same time, only 21% of respondents thought that anti-Russian sanctions should be relieved or abolished. 39% of Germans believed that the restrictive measures should remain in place, while 19% thought that they should be increased.
