MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Frankfurt Fire Department denies that it was attacked by protesters, the department's spokesman told Sputnik on Wednesday.
Earlier Frankfurt police wrote on Twitter about attacks on the local fire station by protesters from the Blockupy left-wing political group that had started clashes with police while trying to disrupt the opening of the new European Central Bank (ECB) headquarters in the German city.
“There were no attacks on the fire station,” a spokesman for Frankfurt Fire Department said.
More than 90 police officers were wounded and over 100 protesters affected by tear gas during the morning rally, according to various sources. At least 16 protesters were arrested.
Blockupy is a left-wing political group protesting EU austerity policies, particularly those recently imposed on Greece.
