MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — US police human rights violations are poorly covered by mainstream media outlets because they find such topics unprofitable, Page May, organizer with the Chicago-based We Charge Genocide grassroots effort told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"I'm not surprised at all by the lack of coverage by the mainstream media because they don't like to talk about these things. That's complicated and they are looking for stories that will sell," May told the news agency.
The We Charge Genocide organizer added that "to start reporting that and questioning that would force us to question the legitimacy of the civil society, of policing and ultimately — of the state."
The issue of human rights violations and excessive use of force by law enforcers has grown particularly important in the United States in recent years. In Chicago, human rights activists have held several protests against the shadow compound of the city's police department in Homan Square over the past weeks.
Earlier this month, Chicago Alliance Against Racist & Political Pressure community organizer Frank Chapman told Sputnik that US media were not present at one of the March rallies against the "black site" and only international media covered the event.
