MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Wednesday anti-austerity protests in Frankfurt will not persuade officials in the European Union to change their political course, the spokesman for the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) told Sputnik.
"No, not in the least," Colin Fox said while commenting on the outcome of the rallies.
Fox added however, that the protest is important as "it does serve to show the world that these people do not govern and exploit in our name or with our blessing and support."
On Wednesday, thousands of people from a number of European countries took to the streets of Frankfurt to protest against Eurozone austerity measures such as those currently implemented in Greece. The demonstrators, led by the left-wing Blockupy movement, tried to disrupt the opening of the new $1.4 billion headquarters of the European Central Bank.
According to Blockupy, the morning protest rally managed to gather some 6,000 people, while the evening march was attended by 20,000.
