One Russian tourist was injured in the recent museum attack in Tunisia, Prime Minister Habib Essid said.

MANAMA (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, two unidentified gunmen, disguised as soldiers, attacked the Bardo museum in the capital city of Tunis taking tourists hostages.

"As for the injured, there are 13 wounded people from Italy, seven French tourists, four Japanese nationals, six Tunisians, and 11 Polish citizens. As for the Russians, one Russian national has been injured, and another two people from the Republic of South Africa," the prime minister said.

According to Essid, 44 people were wounded in total.

Earlier media reports suggested that the total number of those injured stood at 50, while 22 people, including Spanish, Italian, Polish and German nationals, were killed.

The attack has been condemned by the international community, including Russian, US, Italian, Spanish and Polish authorities, as well as the United Nations.

According to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who has also condemned the attack, the Islamic State militant group was responsible for the attack.
