MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A man from Bronx was sentenced to 20 years in prison for feeding his children rat poison, New York Daily News reported.
Leonardo Espinal, 49, is said to have given his 5-year-old son pizza infused with the poison before submerging him in a bathtub.
The man also gave poisoned pizza to his 7-year-old daughter but the girl survived.
According to the newspaper, Espinal was babysitting the children while his ex-wife Rosaura Abreu, 32, was out.
Espinal reportedly called Abreu the night he was babysitting kids, threatening to commit suicide.
After police came, both kids were urgently sent to a hospital where the boy died.
Espinal and Abreu had reportedly been together for more than 10 years before they broke up, which happened two weeks before the murder.
