Malaysia Plane ‘Accident’ Announcement Sparks Protests
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Malaysian opposition party vice president Tian Chua was detained over participation in protests demanding the release of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Straight Times newspaper said Friday.

Chua, vice president for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (People's Justice Party) and a parliamentary for the Batu constituency in Kuala Lumpur, was detained at a police station while making a statement, according to the media report. He became the eleventh person arrested for participating in the early March rally.

On March 7, thousands of people took to the streets of Kuala Lumpur to demand the release of Anwar. The politician was removed from the post of Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and imprisoned on corruption and sodomy charges.

Another rally will be held on March 21, with protesters demanding the resignation of Malaysia's Inspector-General of Police of Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar over police brutality during the previous demonstration, according to the newspaper.
