Police say the man also attacked a US Border Patrol agent in the process.

The agent was allegedly hit with pepper spray when he tried to stop the man. The incident occurred less than 1,000 feet from border, near where the city of Sumas, Washington meets with Abbotsford, British Columbia.
While the Canada-United States border is twice as long as the United States-Mexico border, DHS reports that more than 86% of its agents are assigned to the southern region along the Mexican border.

The Border Patrol agent and the shooting victim have not been officially identified, but CBS News is reporting that the dead man is Daniel Paul, 42, of Vancouver, who was suspected of killing his girlfriend.
