LONDON (Sputnik) — A High Court judge in London ordered passports to be taken from five schoolgirls allegedly considering going to Syria, where a violent Islamic State (ISIL) group is running rampant, Daily Mail reported Friday.
Justice Hayden explained his decision, saying it was "common knowledge" that many Britons had lost their lives in Syria waging jihad alongside ISIL militants.
The judge ruled to make the teenagers wards of court and barred them from leaving England and Wales.
This came after three teenage girls from London managed to fly to Turkey in February and cross into Syria, where they are believed to have joined ISIL ranks.
According to UK police, around 20 young British women went to fight alongside jihadists in Syria in 2014. At least four of them were under age.
