WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation on Friday on the ongoing Iran discussions, US Department of State spokesperson Jeff Rathke told journalists.
“Secretary Kerry also spoke with Chinese Foreign minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister [Sergey] Lavrov today by phone,” Rathke said on Friday. “They were focused on the Iran talks.”
The State Department spokesperson did not provide any details about the conversation.
The talks in Lausanne, which will resume in the Swiss city of Lausanne on March 25 are viewed as another attempt to conclude a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of international mediators, which are comprised of the United States, Russia China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany.
The final deal should be reached by July 2015, while a flexible deadline of March 24 was set for a political framework agreement.
Tehran has been accused by the United States, the European Union and a number of other countries of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program. Iran has rejected the claims, saying its nuclear program exclusively serves civilian purposes.
