"Two army soldiers have also sustained minor injuries in this attack so far," a police officer said as quoted by the Hindustan Times. The entire area has been cordoned off, while firing continues, police said.
At least two militants are reportedly involved in the attack. However, it is unclear yet whether they were from the same group, which attacked on Friday a police station in Kathua district located close to the border with Pakistan.
Following Friday's attack, Indian intelligence agency issued high terror alert in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a statement that the terrorists came from Pakistan.
Disputes over the Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir administrative region have marred Indian-Pakistani relations since the end of British rule in 1947. Following four wars and a number of military conflicts, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Since then, both sides repeatedly blamed each other for violating the truce.
