WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States is waiting for more concessions on the part of Tehran in the Iranian nuclear program dispute, however, there is a possibility that a final deal with the P5+1 group of international mediators will be reached soon, US President Barack Obama told The Huffington Post.
"Frankly, they [Iran] have not yet made the kind of concessions that are I think going to be needed for a final deal to get done. But they have moved, and so there's the possibility," Obama said in the interview, released on Saturday.
This week, Iran and the P5+1 held another round of negotiations on Tehran's controversial nuclear program. The talks are expected to continue on March 25 and negotiators have until July 2015 to reach a final agreement.
The deal would lift international economic sanctions in exchange for restrictions on Tehran's nuclear program and increased monitoring of Iranian nuclear facilities.
The sanctions have been imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council, the United States, the European Union and a number of other countries over Western fears that Iran's uranium enrichment is being conducted with the aim of creating nuclear weapons. Meanwhile Tehran insists that its nuclear activity is for peaceful purposes only.
