MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow region police arrested an aide to the US defense attache to Russia Sunday on suspicion of drunk driving, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti.
"Around midday, police officers attempted to stop a BMW X5 at the traffic police post close to the Domodedovo airport, but the driver ignored the demand and continued to the airport. He was caught at the airport parking. When checking his documents it was revealed that he had no OSAGO [mandatory] insurance. As the report was drawn up, it turned out that the man smelled of alcohol,” the source said.
The source added that the BMW X5 driver was a US citizen, an aide to US Defense Attache Bruce McClintock. He was driving to the airport on a personal car.
The suspect refused to undergo an alcohol testing, and the car was driven away by his wife, who was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
The source could not immediately say what measures will be taken against the diplomat.
