ATHENS (Sputnik) — Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias proposed to create a joint commission of Greek and German experts to address the issue of World War II reparations, German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported Sunday.
Athens seek compensation from Germany for damages caused by Nazi occupation of Greece during World War II.
Greek Foreign Minister added that he favours finding a political way to solve to the dispute and that a committee of Greek and German experts may help come up with such a solution.
Foreign Minister Kotzias visited Berlin on Sunday. On Monday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will travel to German capital for talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel. Tsipras is expected to present a new list of economic reforms to be held in Greece to secure more funds from the European Union lenders.
On Thursday Greek Deputy Defense Minister Kostas Isihos told Sputnik he had made an official request for Moscow to provide Athens with any archive documents on German occupation that might be able to aid Greece in receiving reparations from Berlin.
