NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Pakistan previously abstained from holding military parades amid fighting with the Taliban.
On Monday, personnel from the country's Army, Navy and Air Force held a march and performed a salute to Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, marking the sixty-fifth anniversary of Pakistani independence.
The Pakistani military also showed off military hardware, including the PAC JF-17 Thunder multirole combat jets and Al-Khalid tanks, both jointly developed by Pakistan and China.
The military parade commemorated the historic Lahore Resolution of March 23, 1940, adopted by the Indian All-Muslim League calling for the creation of an independent state for Muslims in India.
