MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Even those countries that strongly supported anti-Russian sanctions implemented over Moscow’s alleged role in the Ukrainian internal crisis now realize that the measures do not work, Russia's permanent envoy to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said Monday.
“Today everyone [is] realizing, even strong supporters of these sanctions, that the sanctions do not work, meaning that their goal is not reached,” Chizhov said during a video conference from Brussels in the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya.
There is no consensus regarding anti-Russia sanctions in the West, Chizhov said.
Since the Ukrainian conflict escalated in April 2014, the European Union, the United States and their allies have imposed a number of economic sanctions against Moscow, blaming it for interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
