An "indecent" campaign over Victory Day celebations in Moscow offends the memory of those who fought against Nazism, Russia's envoy to the EU said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Some European Union countries are carrying out an "indecent campaign" over Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, offending the memory of soldiers who died fighting fascism, Russia EU envoy Vladimir Chizhov said Monday.

Seriously? US Now Wants Kiev to Host Moscow's Victory Day Parade
On May 9, Russia will celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory Day, marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

Several European leaders, including European Council President Donald Tusk, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron declined an invitation to attend the Victory Day celebration, citing Russia's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian internal crisis.

“Some of the EU countries have unfolded indecent campaigns over Victory Day celebrations – it does not look honorable for those politicians and offends [the] memory of the Soviet soldiers, their own compatriots who died fighting fascism – this should be obviously left on their conscience,” Chizhov said at a news conference at Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that 26 world leaders had confirmed they would attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, among them leaders from China, India, Cuba and North Korea.
