MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It is better for countries to have their own agenda regarding anti-Russia sanctions in order to achieve a multi-polar world, and not just follow the United States, Ludovic de Danne, European Affairs Adviser for the leader of French right-wing party Front National Marine Le Pen, told Sputnik Monday.
"The French see that [the situation is not right], for example if we are talking about sanctions against Russia, it's not a good idea, if we want to see a multi-polar world, it's better to sit around the table, not just follow the agenda of the United States and their allies," de Danne said.
The European Union, the United States and their allies imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia over its alleged role in the internal conflict in Ukraine. The sanctions target individuals, as well as the country's banking, energy and defense sectors.
The European Union is currently debating over the extension of the economic sanctions against Russia, as there is a lack of consensus on the matter between the member states. Washington is a supporter of restrictive measures against Russia, reportedly putting pressure on pro-Russia EU states.
