Enemy of the State: The Western Persecution of Whistleblowers
GENEVA (Sputnik) — WikiLeak's founder Julian Assange is more than willing to be interviewed by Swedish prosecutors in London, but without preconditions, the whistleblower and his attorney said Monday in a video link with the UN.

Speaking to the UN Human Rights Council, Assange said he had been trying to make a statement to Swedish prosecutors for years now, after he was accused of sexual abuse and fled to the Ecuadorian embassy in London, UK.

"That offer has always been on the table. It is being repeated again, and again, and again. And I'm very pleased that the prosecution has finally accepted that offer," Assange said, adding there were arrangements to be made with Ecuador and Britain.

Assange To Stay in London Embassy as Long as US Pursues WikiLeaks Probe
Head of Julian Assange's legal team, Baltasar Garzon, slammed Swedish authorities for taking more than four years to grant his defendant the right to make a statement. He said Swedish authorities effectively "denied" him a right that any person under investigation has.

Garzon added that Swedish prosecutors should not make any preconditions for interrogating Assange, who is to stay on the territory of the Ecuadorian embassy until the United Kingdom guarantees his right to go to Ecuador.

Vigil for WikiLeaks’ Assange Outside Ecuador Embassy in London
The South American country granted him refugee status in 2014, but has so far been unable to secure his safe exit from Britain, after London agreed to extradite the whistleblower to Sweden where he is wanted for alleged rape.

The 43-year-old says the charges are politically motivated, and are to justify his rendition to the United States for trial. He could face espionage charges in the United States following his disclosure of secret military and diplomatic documents through WikiLeaks.
