Speaking to the UN Human Rights Council, Assange said he had been trying to make a statement to Swedish prosecutors for years now, after he was accused of sexual abuse and fled to the Ecuadorian embassy in London, UK.
"That offer has always been on the table. It is being repeated again, and again, and again. And I'm very pleased that the prosecution has finally accepted that offer," Assange said, adding there were arrangements to be made with Ecuador and Britain.
Garzon added that Swedish prosecutors should not make any preconditions for interrogating Assange, who is to stay on the territory of the Ecuadorian embassy until the United Kingdom guarantees his right to go to Ecuador.
The 43-year-old says the charges are politically motivated, and are to justify his rendition to the United States for trial. He could face espionage charges in the United States following his disclosure of secret military and diplomatic documents through WikiLeaks.
