WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Department of State is reviewing whether US citizens were onboard the Germanwings flight that crashed in southern France, and will offer any assistance to the countries’ that are investigating the crash, the Department’s spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.
“We are reviewing whether any US citizens were aboard the flight,” Psaki stated. “The United States stands ready to offer assistance and support to the Governments of France, Germany, and Spain as they investigate this tragedy.
Early on Tuesday, the low-cost Germanwings airline confirmed that 144 passengers and six crew members were on board the plane en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf when it crashed in a remote mountain region in southern France.
French Transportation Minister Alain Vidalies said there were no survivors. The victims of the plane crash were mainly German, Spanish and Turkish nationals, according to French President Francois Hollande.
