Earlier in March, the patient was flown from Sierra Leone to the United States on a private charter aircraft, and was admitted to the NIH’s Clinical Center’s Special Clinical Studies (SCSU) high-level isolation unit.
However, the patient is the 11th person who tested positive for Ebola treated in the United States.
According to the most recent World Health Organization (WHO) figures revealed on March 18, 25,000 people have been infected with the disease and more then 10,000 have died.
The current Ebola endemic began in Guinea in 2014, and later spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal, according to the WHO.
