WARSAW (Sputnik) – Poland’s Military Prosecutor General’s Office has accused two Russian air traffic controllers from the Smolensk Airport in the fatal crash of then-President Lech Kaczynski in 2010, a spokesman said Friday.
“Two Russian air traffic controllers are accused of unintentional acts leading to the air crash. We plan to hear them as suspects,” the spokesman said during a press conference in Warsaw.
The Russian-made Tu-154 passenger plane carrying then-President Kaczynski, his wife and a number of high-ranking officials crashed in heavy fog as it attempted to land at an airfield near Smolensk on April 10, 2010. None of the 96 passengers aboard the plane survived.
