Jeffrey Bailey was fired and his partner Carmen Francois was suspended after police discovered that Bailey repeatedly punched a homeless man while Francois prevented another man from stopping the attack.
Both ambassadors told their supervisor about the confrontation, claiming they did it out of self-defense, prompting police to arrest the trespassers, They were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and making threats against the ambassadors.
Days later, police found the video on YouTube, shocking officials at the Downtown Berkeley Association, the nonprofit organization that employs the ambassadors.
This is "clearly unacceptable and outrageous behavior that cannot be tolerated," said John Carner of the Association. "It’s not self-defense."
Police sent the video to the district attorney’s office to be used as evidence to exonerate the two homeless men, and to decide whether the ambassadors will face charges.
