MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United States is preparing to boost its aid to Saudi Arabia-led coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen, The Wall Street Journal reported citing US officials.
So far, the United States has been providing intelligence, targeting and logistical support to the coalition.
Washington intends to provide more intelligence assistance, as well as bombs and aerial refueling missions for aircraft that conduct airstrikes, the newspaper reported on Friday.
Saudi officials asked Washington to provide air tankers for refueling the planes and more US-made bombs to use them during the strikes, according to the news outlet.
The United States could start providing the requested aid once the approval is granted in Washington.
The coalition started to carry out airstrikes on Wednesday after the Arab League had received a request from ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi for military aid.
Apart from Saudi Arabia, the coalition comprises the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Pakistan and Egypt.
