SHARM EL-SHEIKH (Sputnik) — The Arab world need to combine efforts to resist the attempts of non-Arab countries to interfere into its affairs, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi said Saturday.

Sisi said at the Arab League Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh that in the recent days the Arab world has faced “unprecedented threats that put its very existence at risk.”

“There are external forces that are meddling in the region’s affairs to cause crises and we need to jointly resist the attempts to interfere in the affairs of the Arab states,” the Egyptian president added.

President Sisi also welcomed the project approved by the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States on the creation of joint armed forces.

He also touched upon the Saudi-led coalition’s military operation in Yemen that began earlier this week. According to Sisi, the “decisive actions” by Arab states were “absolutely necessary to preserve the integrity of Yemen.”

Late on Wednesday night, the Saudi-led coalition started launching airstrikes against the positions of Houthi rebels – main opposition force in Yemen that forced the elected authorities to resign. The international operation came as a response to the request by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The two-day Arab League summit with participation of 15 heads of states began in Egypt’s city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Saturday. The summit is to focus on a recently intensified Yemen crisis and the establishment of an Arab rapid response force to counter terrorism. The participants will also discuss the situation in Libya, the Syrian crisis, and Palestine-Israeli conflict.
