Immigration: Reason for England's Population Boom
LONDON (Sputnik) — British Prime Minister David Cameron told The Telegraph that he is not abandoning his plans to bring the number of migrants entering the United Kingdom every year to less than 100,000 people.

Cameron first pledged to cut net migration to the United Kingdom down to “tens of thousands” in 2011. However, the most recent report by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) published in February has shown that the figure had risen to 298,000 people a year, which is almost 50,000 higher than when Cameron came to power in 2010.

“Britain is facing quite a lot of pressure because the level of migration has been too high for too long. You see that on school places, and you see that in some places on the health service… Getting net migration to below 100,000 annually remains the right ambition,” Cameron said.

Out of Touch Left, Right and Centre: British Politics and Immigration
A poll by Ipsos published earlier in March has revealed that immigration is currently a top concern for Britons.

The Conservative Party, headed by Prime Minister David Cameron and the Labour party led by Ed Miliband are the two major rivals in the general elections in the United Kingdom that are scheduled for May 7, 2015.

The “short” general election campaign in the United Kingdom will officially begin on March 30.
