SANAA (Sputnik) – Saudi-led allied bombing of the Yarim District to the south of Yemen’s capital Sanaa has left at least 11 dead and another 30 injured, a security source told Sputnik on Tuesday.
“Eleven people were killed and more than 30 wounded in the shelling of Yarim [district] after striking six building,” the source said.
He added that a gas station was also destroyed.
The Saudi-led coalition began air raids against Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and its suburbs on Wednesday, at the request of the country's ousted President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
The campaign, it is hoped, will roll back the Houthi military insurgency that flared up across Yemen after massive protests against the government in August 2014.
On Sunday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Riyad Yassin said that the Saudi-led coalition may launch a ground operation against the Houthis.
