On March 9, US President Barack Obama said Venezuela poses a threat to US national security and sanctioned seven of the country's officials Washington believes were involved in human rights abuses during the 2014 mass demonstrations in Venezuela.
"We are going towards the 10 million signatures, 10 million wills! This is the slogan trending in Venezuela," Maduro said as quoted by Venezolana de Television on Monday.
"Venezuela is not a threat, Obama, Venezuela is a life’s hope, it is glorious history of Bolivar; Bolivar's homeland, Obama. Make no mistake with Venezuela, Obama! This is the homeland of the liberators!" Maduro exclaimed.
The Venezuelan government will take the signatures to the Summit of the Americas in Panama scheduled for April 10-11.
Earlier in March, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), consisting of 11 Latin American states, expressed opposition to Obama’s executive order and demanded the United States “immediately stop the harassment and aggression against the Venezuelan government and people.”
