European members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will have to increase their defense spending budget, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels.
According to Stoltenberg, the US is financing 70 percent of the alliance’s cost at its own expense, although the US and European economies are relatively equal. Member states agreed to give two percent of their GDP to the general treasury, but most countries pay less than that.
In the case of the Czech Republic the payment is a little more than one percent of their GDP.
Stoltenber noted that in the current world situation, which according to him is complicated, defense funding should be increased.
