MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The armed prisoner who escaped from a Virginia hospital earlier on Tuesday has been detained, local police said.

Assaye, 42, escaped from the Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, after he had stolen a gun from a security officer. The escape prompted a nearly nine-hour-long manhunt, during which Assaye stole two cars.
According to a 2012 Virginia Parole Board document, Assaye has an extensive criminal record and a history of violence, and has previously committed robbery and burglary.
