LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — Work to reach a political agreement on the long-sought comprehensive Iran nuclear deal may take longer that anticipated as several issues remain unresolved, a senior Iranian diplomat said Tuesday.
For over ten years, the P5+1 countries, namely Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany have been trying to convince Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program and decrease the number of centrifuges, fearing Tehran is developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program.
The diplomat said that the ultimate goal is to achieve the "best solutions which are mutually agreed by everybody," adding that attempts would continue until such solutions were found.
"We continue whatever it takes, even after midnight, as we don't have any set time or limit for reaching a solution," Baedinejad said.
The international mediators have been in talks with Iran since November 2013 trying to reach a deal that would ensure peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
The deadline for reaching the final agreement has been postpones several times, with the most recent one set for July 1, 2015.
