LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi left current talks on Iran nuclear deal in Switzerland on Tuesday to return to Beijing, but political director Wang Qun will take over as head of the Chinese delegation, a source at the talks told RIA Novosti.
"The minister has left the talks [in Lausanne]. He is returning to Beijing…The political director will continue negotiations," the source said.
"This does not mean that that China abandons the talks. His [Wang Yi] trip to Beijing was planned," he stressed.
The P5+1 group of six world powers comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany tries to reach a deal with Tehran guaranteeing a peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program.
A new round of P5+1 talks with Tehran began in Lausanne on March 19. It was expected to conclude last Sunday, but the negotiations were prolonged until Tuesday, as the sides are trying to hammer out a political framework that will set the stage for a comprehensive agreement on Iran's nuclear program by July 1, 2015.
