Aeroflot's CEO Vitaly Savelyev said the company plans to increase passenger traffic on flights to Crimea.

NOVO-OGARYOVO (Sputnik) — Russia's flagship carrier Aeroflot is planning to increase passenger traffic on several routes, including Crimea, company's CEO, Vitaly Savelyev, said on Tuesday.

Crimean authorities have been busy preparing for the summer tourism season. Among their endevours is a project to put up over 7,000 signs directing visitors to historical and cultural heritage sites, nature areas, resorts and hotels across the peninsula - Sputnik International

"This year, we will increase passenger traffic on many routes, including Crimea," Savelyev said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Savelyev added that the ticket price for flights to Crimea will not be subject to seasonal fluctuation.

Aeroflot flew a total of 23.6 million passengers in 2014.

In January and February Aeroflot flew 3.5 million passengers, showing 12 percent growth in comparison to the same period last year.

Crimea and its special-status port city of Sevastopol adopted a declaration of independence from Ukraine, asking for reunification with Russia on March 11, 2014. Following a region-wide referendum on March 16 and a treaty of accession between the peninsula and the Kremlin on March 18, Crimea rejoined Russia.
