WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Naval Forces relieved of duty the Multinational Medical Unit in Afghanistan commanding officer Maria Majar because of loss of confidence in her ability to carry her duties, the US Naval Forces Central Command said in statement.
“Rear Adm. James Loeblein, Commander, Task Force Individual Augmentee, relieved the commanding officer of the Multinational Medical Unit at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, on March 31, 2015, due to loss of confidence in her ability to command,” the statement said.
The decision followed an investigation into the abusive command environment in the unit, according to the Naval Command.
Majar and Reece were reassigned to administrative duties with the US Naval Forces Central Command located at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, pending the final outcome of the investigation, according to the statement.
“Capt. William Leonard, previously scheduled to take command of the medical unit in April, has assumed duties as commanding officer,” the Naval Forces Central Command said.
The Multinational Medical Unit is the primary trauma receiving and referral center for all combat casualties in Southern Afghanistan.
