MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — More Yemeni citizens are fleeing their home across the Red Sea amid the ongoing Saudi-led airstrikes against Yemeni Houthis, a religious group and the main opposition force in Yemen.
Over the last weekend, more than 100 people fled Yemen to Djibouti and Somaliland, the UNHCR spokeswoman said.
The Houthis recently took over the country's capital Sanaa, forced the elected President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee the country, and made rapid advances into other cities.
Last week, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition began conducting airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen after requests from the ousted president.
The main goal of the military operation is to defeat the Houthis, who are supporters of ex-Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh, and return to power the government of Hadi.
