"One of the key events at our embassy in the year of the 70th anniversary of our common victory will be the awarding ceremony of Chinese veterans with the Russian Jubilee Medals 70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War,'" the Russian envoy to China said during the conference on the results of Second World War.
Denisov stressed that an uncountably high price was paid by the peoples of the USSR and China for the victory. He emphasized the importance of historical accuracy and the need to counter free interpretation and willful distortion of World War II history, allowed by some "neighbors in the West and the East."
The ceremony will take place April 15 at the Russian Embassy in China.
In total Russia and China will hold about 60 joint events as part of a combined celebration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, including mutual visits of the leaders of the two countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 9 will take part in the Victory Day celebration in Moscow, while Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in September celebrations in Beijing.
