WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States-led Coalition against the Islamic State (IS) conducted 14 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, resulting in destruction of tactical units, IS-held buildings and heavy machine guns, the US Central Command said in a statement.
“[C]oalition military forces continued to attack ISIL [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] terrorists in Syria, using fighter, attack and bomber aircraft to conduct seven airstrikes,” the statement, issued on Wednesday, said.
Airstrikes destroyed four IS tactical units and four fighting positions near Al-Hasakah in north-eastern Syria, according to the US Central Command.
In addition, three airstrikes struck three tactical units, three vehicles and three fighting positions in Northern Syrian city of Kobani.
In Iraq, the coalition conducted seven airstrikes near five cities, including Kirkuk and Mosul. The airstrikes destroyed four IS tactical units, one vehicle, one fighting position, two buildings, two heavy machine guns, one artillery piece and a tent shelter.
The airstrikes were a part of the Coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve, whose goal is to eliminate the Islamic State, according to the press release.
